Madhubani Art: Indian Folk Art Through Lines, Patterns & Stories

Explore the fundamentals of Madhubani painting while developing your own visual language through traditional motifs, pattern, symbolism and storytelling. Across four hands-on classes, you’ll practise characteristic line work, build a personal motif library and experiment with sustainable surfaces including handmade paper, cardboard, fabric and found materials. You’ll create smaller studies along the way, then bring everything together in a finished Madhubani-inspired mixed-media artwork.
COURSE RUNDOWN

Class 1: Introduction To Madhubani

Explore the history, cultural importance and symbolic language of Madhubani art. Practise essential techniques including double lines, dots and cross-hatching, begin building your own motif library and complete a small line-based artwork.

Class 3: Personal Stories Through Madhubani

Explore how personal memories, places and experiences can be translated into Madhubani-inspired symbols. Experiment with mixed-media techniques using paint, fabric scraps, thread, collage and natural textures to begin building a more personal storytelling piece.

Class 4: Final Madhubani Artwork
