FUGA - A study of addiction to the future, the past, and the avoidance of the present.
Fuga is a latin word that translates to avoidance in english and escape in spanish.
Time is an untamable, misunderstood, relative, and capricious dimension. It defines us without mercy.
The addiction to immediacy, excessive productivity, and unrealistic expectations have made society live in a constant excess of yesterday and/or tomorrow.
The blurring of today within myself is the generative source of these three series presented in this exhibition.
A panoramic view of my perception of the effect of addiction to the past, to the future, and the temptation of self-induced drowsiness.
Preterite- Ink on Ink
We walk, we decide, time does not return; every step is definitive, impartial, and devoid of mercy. "What's done is done."
Like ink on the skin, every memory stays within our bodies, altering our body chemistry. Our decisions, both the ones we make and the ones we neglect, define us.
In the series "Preterite," each character is portrayed with their past, experiences, memories, opinions, and senselessness. An exercise in limitless semiosis that adds depth to each individual depicted.
Each of these elements, although they may appear similar, holds a unique significance for each individual, and together they ultimately signify the unity of the person in the present.
In Preterite, people are, whether they want to be or not.
Futurum - Anxiety Demons
The future is elusive, unpredictable, and beyond our control. It's a realm where scenarios cloud our surroundings until there's no room for contemplation, as we immerse ourselves in the future, neglecting the present.
"Futurum - Anxiety Demons" serves as a vivid representation of anxiety. Each character is submerged in their own expectations, all of which are outside their control, gradually erasing their true selves.
This is yet another exploration of limitless semiotics, saturating the external space of each print. Do these representations reflect what we see, or are they a reflection of what we cannot perceive?
Fuga - Study of Somnolence Creatures
This study introduces two of the creatures that haunt contemporaneity, enticing us into a state of drowsiness. Our psyche, overwhelmed by the past and the future, chooses to evade reality by immersing itself in a superficial, expectant routine. Each one of us, from our own windows, watches these beings consume our free will, lulling us into the emptiness of complacency.
