Ongoing Education Of Abandonment - Show by Mique Michelle
Join us on May 25th, from 5-9 PM at Urban Art Collective for the opening of the Ongoing Education Of Abandonment by Mique Michelle.
“In 2008 an exploration of an abandoned building led to an ongoing education of abandonment. Discovering the remains of local memorabilia and wasted educational resources quickly became the tools to understand the dispersion of education, of safe and undisplaced education.
Who and where, and what are we spending, quantifies the priority of a child’s education. Safe community spaces importance become more and more evident. The hand me down process of a site, the protection of heritage and its archive. Academic institutions in rural or isolated communities also act as a venue for cultural preservation, archiving our history and practicing our language. When deprived of such buildings, these practices are lost or get assimilated.
With graffiti and photography I was able to collaborate in discourse concerning the process of educational institutions being handed out in an equation of worth via identity and language. Still exploring our handling of who can learn in a safe and local environment here is an ongoing education of abandonment.”
The Vernissage is May 25th from 5-9PM.
