GO PUBLISH YOURSELF!!!
ZINE

GO PUBLISH YOURSELF!!!

Make your own zine from a single sheet of paper, then run a physical batch on UAC’s in-house copier and put it into circulation. You’ll explore the DIY history and culture of zines, learn the single-sheet folding method, and build an original master using collage, drawing, writing and whatever strange ideas deserve eight tiny pages. Finish by photocopying your own edition, assembling the copies and trading with other makers, leaving with a finished batch and a simple publishing process you can repeat almost anywhere.
WORKSHOP RUNDOWN

Part 1: Zines & Why They Matter

Explore the independent history and culture of zines, from early fan publications through punk, new wave, Riot Grrrl and contemporary self-publishing. Look at how artists, writers and other makers use physical publishing to share work without needing algorithms, platforms or permission.

Part 2: Make Your Zine

Learn how to fold and cut a single sheet of paper into a complete booklet with no binding tools. Develop your master layout using collage, drawing, writing, markers, pencil crayons and found material, working from your own idea or a random prompt if you need somewhere to start.

Part 3: Copy, Assemble & Share

Run a physical batch of your finished zine using UAC’s in-house photocopier, then fold and assemble the copies into a small edition to take home. Trade with other makers if you want and explore different ways independent zines can make their way into the world.
