Led by animator Brennan Bova, this experimental workshop invites creators to explore analog animation techniques by transforming physical paper into a custom, hand-bound flipbook zine.

Learn how to bring simple drawings to life through shape morphing and continuous movement. Collaborating alongside fellow makers in a studio workshop setting, you will draw, sequence, and assemble your own physical flipbook zine, walking away with a unique published piece and the skills to continue animating at home.

Workshop Rundown

Phase 1: Zine & Animation Concepts

Explore the intersection of indie zines and tactile flipbook animation. Sketch out a simple visual concept focused on shape morphing, fluid movement, and transformation without worrying about complex software.

Phase 2: Drawing & Frame Sequencing

Get drawing! Work frame-by-frame on physical paper, learning how registration, timing, and subtle drawing shifts create convincing motion across your zine pages.

Phase 3: Zine Assembly & Binding

Bind, trim, and assemble your physical flipbook zine. Test your animation in real time, troubleshoot movement with the cohort, and share your finished zine with the class.

By The End Of This Workshop, You Will:

• Understand fundamental principles of frame-by-frame analog animation.
• Design, draw, and sequence a smooth morphing animation across physical paper.
• Master physical registration, page layout, and zine binding techniques.
• Complete a finished physical flipbook zine to take home, trade, or add to your collection.
