Learn how to photograph the Moon and planets from the city using a smartphone or standard camera, then leave with a practical beginner workflow and a printed image from the workshop to take home.
-
Beginner-Focused: Learn the basics of urban astrophotography without requiring expensive specialized gear or previous experience.
-
Hands-On Shooting: Connect smartphones, DSLR or mirrorless cameras to telescopes and practise photographing lunar and planetary targets.
-
Equipment Provided: Use demonstration telescopes, universal smartphone mounts, camera adapters and an outdoor stargazing area.
-
Learn The Workflow: Explore manual settings, telescope alignment, urban light pollution, frame stacking and beginner-friendly post-processing.
-
Take Home A Print: Choose one image from the workshop to have printed in-house and take home with you.
Capture the night sky without getting bogged down in expensive gear or complex tech. Built strictly as a true beginner intensive, this four-hour evening workshop shows you how to photograph solar system targets and stargaze right from the city. Learn how to adapt your smartphone or standard camera to a telescope to capture the Moon and planets, and discover the essential mechanics behind deep-space shooting in an urban environment, from navigating Ottawa's Bortle scale to handling noise and frame stacking.
