Petr Maur

Petr Maur is a filmmaker, cinematographer, photographer and co-owner of Ottawa’s Mayfair Theatre. His career spans major international productions, independent filmmaking and Ottawa cult cinema, with credits connected to directors including Neill Blomkamp, Jon Watts and Lee Demarbre, and productions such as Fatman, The Day, Clown, The Blackcoat’s Daughter, Awakening the Zodiac, Smash Cut, Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter and Enter the Drag Dragon.
His personal work is drawn to places that feel forgotten, abandoned, in-between or on the edge of disappearing. Wearing a questionable spacesuit, Petr walks through these spaces to observe, explore and document them, inviting reflection on places that may no longer exist tomorrow. The work turns the surreal into something strangely familiar, blending curiosity, humour and a deep attention to place.
Across both film and photography, Petr’s work is grounded in practical problem-solving, visual storytelling and finding strong images in real locations with real constraints.
