Interested in fibre arts, but have no idea where to begin? This hands-on 4-hour intensive offers an accessible opportunity to engage with macrame, a versatile and beginner-friendly fibre medium. Learn the magic of knots, explore tactile textures, and develop your own personal technique working directly with your hands.

Get inspired by exploring different styles of macrame wall hangings, master essential knotting techniques, and build your confidence step-by-step. You will sketch your concept, set up your workstation, and craft a finished small-to-medium wall hanging mounted on authentic Canadian driftwood.

About Your Instructor

Brit Campbell is a teacher and fibre artist who works in macrame, punch needle and the fine art of convincing old materials they still have one more project in them.

Workshop Rundown

Phase 1: Inspiration & Core Knots

Explore various styles of macrame wall hangings to kickstart your creative vision. Through guided instruction, you will learn and practice 5 core macrame knots to build fundamental technique and confidence.

Phase 2: Station Setup & Design

Translate your ideas onto paper by sketching your custom hanging design. Learn how to properly set up a vertical wall working station and prep your Canadian driftwood mounting piece.

Phase 3: Production & Patterning

Get knotting! Combine your core knots, explore texture, layering, and contrast, and use specialized tools to add fine details to your piece with direct, hands-on guidance.

Phase 4: Finishing & Trimming

Trim, fringe, and detail your finished wall hanging. Wrap up the session with a supportive cohort review, leaving with a completed custom artwork ready to display.

By The End Of This Workshop, You Will:

  • Understand macrame as an expressive visual and tactile art form.
  • Master 5 foundational macrame knots and essential knotting techniques.
  • Explore texture, layering, and contrast using 5mm macrame cord.
  • Set up and manage a vertical knotting workspace.
  • Create a custom driftwood wall hanging to bring home or gift to a friend.
  • Leave with working knowledge of fibre arts to apply to future creative projects.

What We Provide

  • Macrame Cord: 5mm macrame cord spools in your selected colour palette.
  • Driftwood Base: Authentic driftwood sourced from Canadian coasts (provided by instructor).
  • Tools & Hardware: Hooks, beads, accessories, knotting guide cards, and scissors (provided).
