Since the age of 10 Mark Baylin has been fascinated by photography. His early mentor was his father Carl, who taught him traditional darkroom techniques. He is also influenced by Ansel Adams, Freeman Patterson and Stanely Kubrick.
Mark describes his photographic style as an act of reduction. Subjects that seem lost, used up and left for dead, have always acted as a very strong trigger for him. These lost souls, often hiding in plain sight, represent a sense of sad inevitability for him and have always received much more of his attention, than anything that’s traditionally “big and pretty
